Eastern red cedar
After an unforgettable trip to Patagonia, the mountains kept calling. The first piece in a series of mountain inspired sculptures, Wanderlust was carved out of a single beam of eastern red cedar. The piece can rest on a table top or be wall-mounted. The smooth curves on its face are accentuated by the jagged, urban-esque, peaks above.
Eastern red cedar
Escapist is a 72" long sculpture made from 110 pieces of eastern red cedar. After gluing them together, the piece was carved into sweeping curves. The mountainous peaks on top counter the smooth curves on the front and back. Using a Japanese charring technique called Shou Sugi Ban, the cedar is charred black. Through the deep black color, you can see the woodgrain of each individual piece of cedar. This piece can be set on a table top with the mountain tops facing vertically or on the wall with the mountain tops facing out toward the viewer.
